Construction operations with or without permits are generally exempt from noise control between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., except on Sundays and holidays, during which time such operations are subject to noise regulations. Equipment must be operated with manufacturer's mufflers and noise-reducing equipment in proper condition. Special permits may allow work outside these hours.

Unreasonable noise includes sound from radios, televisions, loudspeakers, amplifiers, and musical instruments. For motor vehicles, sound from devices should not be louder than necessary for convenient hearing by occupants; sound clearly audible 30 feet or more from the vehicle is prima facie evidence of a violation.

Barking dogs are a common source of noise complaints. All dogs are required to be on a leash any time they are off their owner's property, except in designated dog parks.

Operating a motor vehicle without a suitable and efficient muffler or baffle, or with a cut-out or removed muffler, is a violation. Unreasonable noise from cars, horns, or signaling devices is prohibited. Using a horn unnecessarily or for an unreasonable period is also prohibited.
