Construction, excavation, demolition, alteration, or repair of buildings, streets, and highways are generally prohibited between 9 PM and 6 AM. Exceptions may be granted for urgent necessity or minor work. A state law (Assembly Bill 478) allows construction to begin as early as 5 AM from April 1st to September 30th if the project is at least 300 feet from an occupied home.

Playing any radio, phonograph, or musical instrument in a manner or volume that annoys or disturbs persons in any residence, office, or hospital, particularly between 11 PM and 7 AM, is prohibited. The use or operation of loudspeakers or sound amplification devices that constitute a public nuisance, interfere with traffic, or disturb public peace and welfare is unlawful.

Keeping any animal, bird, or fowl that creates frequent or long-continued noise disturbing the comfort or repose of neighbors is prohibited. This includes barking, yelping, braying, or other noises that, due to duration or repetition, a reasonable person would consider an unreasonable intrusion into the quiet enjoyment of their property.

The sounding of any horn or signal device on any automobile, van, truck, motorcycle, dirt bike, or bus for an unnecessary and unreasonable period, or creating an unreasonably loud or harsh sound, is prohibited.
